In her 100th year, Barbara “Barb” Howard, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2024, at the age of 99. Barb’s journey through life was marked by her indomitable spirit and unmatched sense of humor.
Barb was a woman of many talents and passions. An avid golfer, curler, and master of crossword puzzles. She approached every activity with enthusiasm and a competitive spirit that was matched only by her quick wit.
Together with her late husband Bill, they founded Midland’s first driving range in the 1950s, which later moved to the Brooklea Golf & Country Club. Barb served as the club captain, while Bill managed the course for many years. They instilled their passion for golf in their two sons, with Russ becoming the club’s youngest junior member at just 6 years old in 1961. Glenn carries on their golfing tradition, regularly hitting the local courses in Midland, Ontario.
She loved to watch sports, and even in her 90s, she often expressed her longing to be back on the course. Beyond golf, Barb’s life was filled with laughter and adventure. She cherished her family, including her sons Russ (Wendy) and Glenn (Judy), her four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Barb’s greatest source of pride was her family, and she leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue to inspire generations to come. Barb will be dearly missed. Let us remember her with laughter – she would surely prefer it that way.
